Part 3
Chapter 6
Thesis: When conducting research in the social work field and in general we must be careful to remain ethical.
1."During every step in any proposed social work research study, you will be called upon to make numerous ethical decisions" (Grinnell 119). Their is never a study that does not require some form of ethical consideration. If you are preforming a study and don't find any that can only mean that you are not looking close enough at what you are doing to see the social implications of it.
2. When conducting studies it would be unethical if it was then presented in a way that was useless to anyone involved in it. "Researchers hold an ethical responsibility to provide information in such a way that potential research participants fully understand the study and their involvement in it." (Grinnell 135). If we do not do this then we risk putting people in situations they don't want to be in or can't handle and this could cause a lot of problem for everyone.
3. To truly be ethical in our research we must have a full understanding about what different methods might produce. "In ethical research, this concern must be partnered with knowledge of best research practices and skill in methodological implementation" (Grinnell 139).
Chapter 7
Thesis: When preforming social research we must keep in mind what society it is being done in and take account for any minorities within the community in question.
1. "How ethnic, cultural, and racial terminology is used in research has a significant impact on the generalizability of findings between and among research studies" (Grinnell 142). The less this is taken into account the less the study will be able to actual tell us about real world society. If a study uses none at all then it is in reality a study on what society is like if things like race did not exist in the minds of the people.
2. If we go into a study assuming everyone is like use we are bound to have problems and not get an accurate representation of the community in question. For instance if we don't speak the same langue but run tests as if we do their is bound to be problems. "The results of translated versions may be different from those with English versions" (Grinnell 154).
3. Just studding these minority communities is not enough we also have to use what we learn to make things better "While much research on race, ethnicity, culture, gender, and sexuality exists. there is some concern with how this research is used to enhance the quality of life for thous studied" (Grinnell 164).
Q. is there any situation where an unethical study should be done?
